Financial Assistance

As a result of very generous contributions made to our parish Tuition Assistance Program, funding is available to families of Saint Andrew for education in our school. For the 2017-2018 school year, we are proud to offer two types of funding, including the EITC Scholarship and three private scholarships.

EITC Scholarship

Funding for EITC scholarships is through area businesses who contribute to Saint Andrew Catholic School tuition assistance in exchange for tax credits from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As such, the Commonwealth has guidelines and restrictions with regard to student scholarship awards. To qualify for a scholarship, eligible students must be enrolled in grades 1 – 8. They also must be a member of a household with an annual income of $76,350 or less, with an additional $15,270 allowed for each eligible student and dependent member of the household, as reflected on their 2016 Federal Income Tax Return.

For example:

Mr. and Mrs. Smith have three children. Mr. Smith earns a salary of $95,000 each year. Mrs. Smith is a homemaker. They earn $1,000 each year in investment income. An elderly grandparent lives with them as well, and is claimed as a dependent on their annual tax returns. Under the current state guidelines, the Smith children would likely be eligible for scholarship funding as their annual income of $96,000 is below the $137,430 allowable income ($76,350 household + $45,810 children + $15,270 grandparent).

The Reverend Neil Saller Scholarship Fund

Through the generosity of a private donation, Saint Andrew Catholic School is proud to make The Reverend Neil Saller Scholarship Fund available to our families with students enrolled in grades 1 - 8. This new scholarship is both need and merit based, but has no restrictions with regard to family income limitations. Annually, $1,500 will be distributed to a qualifying student or the funds will be divided between qualifying students.

The Robert J. Kuhar Memorial Scholarship

Established in October 2004 by the family and friends of former Saint Andrew Maintenance Director Bob Kuhar, the Robert J. Kuhar Memorial Scholarship provides temporary tuition support to a student or students in grades 1 – 8 who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of education at Saint Andrew Catholic School. It is solely need based, but has no restrictions with regard to family income limitations. Total annual distributions are dependent upon the total value of the fund at time of distribution.

The Carrier-Gaines Scholarship Fund

The Carrier-Gaines Scholarship fund was established to act as a safety net to retain children who would need the structure of a values-based, disciplined, academic environment and who may not be able to afford it due to the loss of a parent, the family’s loss of income from a wage earner, outstanding significant medical costs, or other ‘at risk’ children. It is solely need based, but has no restrictions with regard to family income limitations. Total annual distributions are dependent upon the total value of the fund at time of distribution.

To be considered for any of these scholarship opportunities, the Tuition Assistance Application found below must be completed and returned to the Human Resources Office along with all documentation. Please contact the Human Resources Office at 215-968-2685 ext. 212 with any questions.
